Stanza 1
I am a little girl. Now I am a doctor. I have my stethoscope with me. I can examine your heart beat with it. You have to check your heart beat every now and then. It is important because your heart works day and night without rest.
I – the little girl, சிறுயி;
holding – gripping in the hand, பற்றிக் கொண்டு;
stethoscope – a device used by doctors to hear heat beat, மார்புச் சோதனி.
Thud! Thud – the sound made by the heart, இதயம் துடிக்கும் லப் டப் என்ற ஓசை;
chest – box like part which has heart inside, மார்பு;
never at rest – always working, ஓய்வின்றி ;
Stanza 2
I am a little girl. Now I am a doctor. I have my stethoscope with me. Now I examine your heart beat with the stethoscope. Your heart beats perfectly. I can hear it. Everything is okay. You need not fear.
Let me hear – I shall examine your heart beat with my stethoscope. உங்கள் இதயத் துடிப்பை நான் கேட்கப் போகிறேன்;
All is well – Your heart is in a healthy condition, உங்க ள் இதயம் ஆரோக்கியமாக இருக்கிறது;

A stitch in time – The proverb is A stitch in time saves nine,. சரியான நேரத்தில் ஒரு தையல் போட்டுவிட்டால் பின்னர் ஒன்பது தையல் போடுவது மிச்சமாகி விடுகிறது. (காற்றுள்ளபோதே தூற்றிக் கொள்; உடனுக்குடன், எதையும் செய்து முடி),
wails – cries, புலம்புகிறான்;
seams – sewn joint, தையல் போடப்பட்ட பகுதிகள்;
favourite – most liked, மிகவும் பிடித்தமான;
come a part – started giving way, தையல் விட்டு விட்டது;
wear – put on, அணிந்து கொள்;
of course – certainly, நிச்சயமாக;
silly – foolish, முட்டாள்தனமான;
fix – set it right, பொருத்திக் கொள்;
stitch – sew with needle and thread, தைத்து விடு;
in a minute – very soon, இதோ, ஒரு நொடியில்;
iron – press the clothes with iron, இஸ்திரிப் பெட்டி கொண்டு துணியில் இஸ்திரி போடு;
Note : iron என்பது இஸ்திரிப் பெட்டியைக் குறிக்கும் electric iron என்பது மின்சார இஸ்திரிப் பெட்டியைக் குறிக்கும் (இதை iron box என்று கூறுவது தவறு). iron box என்பது இரும்பினால் ஆகிய பெட்டியைக் குறிக்கிறது.

AMAZING AMMACHI
அதிசயிக்க வைத்த அம்மாச்சி
“அம்மாச்சி நாம் தேங்காய் பர்ஃபி தயாரிக்கலாமா?” என சபரி கேட்டான். “ஹா … ஹா.. ஹா .. நீ உதவி செய்தால் முடியும்” என அம்மாச்சி கூறினாள்.
“ஆ ஆ” என்று உற்சாகக் குரல் எழுப்பினான். சபரி (excitedly). “நீங்கள் தயாரா?” என சபரி கேட்டான். கப்பியுடன் (pulley) இணைக்கப்பட்ட (tied) ஆசனத்தல் அமர்ந்திருந்த அம்மாச்சி “நான் தயார்” என்றாள்.
“நாம் முற்றிய தேங்காய்களை மட்டும் பறிக்க வேண்டும். சரிதானே! அதாவது பழுப்பு நிறமானவற்றை மட்டும்”
“என்னை அப்படியே தூக்கு! மேலே! மேலே! மேலே!”
“இங்கே பார். அவை வருகின்றன”
அவை (தேங்காய்கள்) பொத்தென கீழே விழுகின்றன.
“சரி, நாம் தேங்காய் மட்டையை (husk) உரித்து விடுவோம்.”
மட்டை உரிக்கும் எந்திரத்தின் நெம்புகோல் (lever) க்ராங்க் என சத்தமிட்டது. ஓ! இந்தச் சத்தம் சபரியின் வயிற்றிலிருந்து தான் (tummy), நெம்புகோலில் இருந்தல்ல. அம்மாச்சி பல்லைக் காட்டினாள் (giggled).
“பிளக்கும் கருவியை (cleaver) வைத்து தேங்காய் சிரட்டையை (shell) உடைப்போம் (crack). இப்படித்தான்” கதக்.
“தேங்காய் துருவுவோம் (grate)” கர்ர்ர்ர்.
”அதை வாணலியில் (pan) சர்க்க ரை, மற்றப் பொருள்களுடன் சேர்த்துப் போடு (toss)” என அம்மாச்சி கூறினாள்.
“என்ன அருமையான வாசனை” என சபரி கூறினான்.
“இவை அனைத்தையும் ஒரு தட்டில் (tray) கொட்டுவோம் (pour). அது குளிரும் வரை காத்திருப்போம்.”
“இப்போது அதைச் சின்னஞ் சிறிய துண்டுகளாக (pieces) வெட்டுவோம். நமது தேங்காய் பர்ஃபி சாப்பிடத் தயாராக உள்ளது.”
